NYU Politics Society Brand

New York University Politics Society

As Graphic Designer & Photographer for the New York University Politics Society, I created designs for newsletters, a student-led podcast, and social media. When joining the organization, the marketing team wanted to completely revamp their digital marketing.

​

The original color scheme was unchanged, as it was strongly associated with the brand and spoke to the club mission of bringing students together to engage with politics.

However, typefaces and imagery needed to undergo updates to appeal to college students. The Politics Society newsletter was updated with a new, bold typeface to convey the strong, vibrant student population involved in lively political discourse. The logo, which gets many features on Politics Society marketing materials, was made into a more minimalist and modern pattern.

The Politics Society podcast, The Ground Level, was done in colors standard for Politics Society logos and imagery. The podcast itself interviews students involved in grassroots political activism. After thinking about imagery related to ground-level political action, such as picket signs, I decided to use the image of a megaphone. I added an overlay to make the cover less refined and more authentic. The lightning bolt shapes conveyed shouting through the microphone, and they were also made a background pattern to mimic the newsletter branding.

Many podcasts include attribution to their source on their cover, so I added "NYU Politics Society Presents:" in order to provide further attribution to the brand. Additionally, I chose a typeface and font size that remained clear when sized down. On the whole, the design conveyed what we associate with ground-level politics: people who stay informed, organized, passionate, and personal.
